Bringing Basketball back to Seattle
A few years ago the citizens of this area were sitting on pins and needles waiting to hear if we would be able to keep the beloved SuperSonics. It was a sad, sad day when the news came that they would be leaving Seattle behind and moving on to Oklahoma (!!!). They are absolutely missed.
Good news though. Talks about a new arena have been in the works. I don't think it could have come at a better time. We've continued to have a strong fan base for the Mariners and Seahawks and, much to my excitement, the Sounders have been welcomed with open arms. We are a city built on community and spirit. Bringing an NBA team back to the area can only increase the amazing spirit that is already abundant.
To make this possibility even better is the fact that the plan is to bring in Seattle's first NHL team. I can see that being a huge revenue source for the city as it would draw fans from not only Seattle but the surrounding areas. There really isn't anything else within hundreds of miles that can compete with that. If we can add an NBA and an NHL team to our community, it will help our economy grow even stronger. Good news for all industries out here.
I'm truly hoping they work out a deal in SoDo. How amazing would it be to drive into the city off of I-90 and see CenturyLink, SafeCo and the newbie? The three of them with a background of our skyline and Elliot Bay would be stunning. I say speed up the process and bring it on!
